Hard Drive & SSD Disposal · Nationwide

Hard Drive Disposal

Old drives sitting in a closet are a data breach waiting to happen. We wipe them to NIST 800-88, shred them physically, or both — on-site or off-site — and document every drive on your certificate, anywhere in the U.S.

The Risk

Every Idle Drive Still Holds Your Data

Hard drives and SSDs hold client records, credentials and financial data long after a machine is retired. Until they’re wiped or destroyed, that data is recoverable by anyone who powers the drive up.

We handle both drive types correctly: hard drives can be wiped to NIST 800-88 and verified, or shredded; SSDs are physically destroyed because flash memory can’t be reliably overwritten. Every drive is tracked and listed on your certificate.

  • Hard drives can be wiped and verified, or shredded to fragments.
  • SSDs require physical destruction — wiping flash is not reliable.
  • On-site destruction lets your team witness the process.
  • Off-site destruction runs under tracked chain of custody.
How We Destroy Drives

Two Drive Types, Handled the Right Way

Hard drives and solid-state drives are built differently, so we destroy them differently — never a one-size-fits-all shortcut.

HDD

Hard Drive Wiping

Spinning disks are overwritten to NIST 800-88 and verified, so the drive is securely reusable — ideal when resale value matters.

SHRED

Hard Drive Shredding

For maximum assurance, hard drives are physically shredded so nothing can be reconstructed.

SSD

SSD Destruction

Solid-state drives are physically destroyed — the only dependable method for flash storage, which can’t be wiped like a hard disk.

ON

On-Site Shredding

For sensitive projects we destroy drives at your location so your team witnesses it before anything leaves.

COC

Chain of Custody

Off-site drives travel under tracked chain of custody from pickup to destruction — no gaps.

DOC

Certificate of Destruction

Every drive destroyed is logged and listed on a certificate recording the method and date.

The Process

Secure Drive Disposal, Step by Step

1

Tell Us

Send drive counts and type (HDD/SSD), plus whether you want on-site or off-site.

2

Collect or Come

We collect under chain of custody, or arrive on-site to destroy drives at your location.

3

Wipe or Shred

Hard drives are wiped to NIST 800-88 or shredded; SSDs are physically destroyed.

4

Certificate

You receive a certificate listing every drive, the method, and the date.

Common Questions

Hard Drive Disposal Questions

Do you offer on-site hard drive destruction?
Yes. For sensitive projects we bring destruction to your location so your team can witness the process before any drive leaves the building, anywhere in the U.S.
Why can’t SSDs just be wiped?
Solid-state drives store data across flash memory in a way that standard overwriting can’t reliably clear. Physical destruction is the only dependable method for SSDs.
Can you destroy just a few drives, or only bulk?
We handle projects of varying sizes, from a handful of drives to bulk data-center volumes. Tell us your quantities and we’ll confirm.
Is the destruction documented?
Yes. Every drive is logged and appears on a certificate of destruction recording the method used and the date.
What standard do you wipe to?
Hard drive wiping is done to the NIST 800-88 standard and verified, which is the current federal media-sanitization guideline that replaced the old DoD method.
